ABOUT THIS BUILDING

Saint Patrick is the first Roman Catholic church in Pittsburgh founded in 1908, with the current church being dedicated on St Patricks Day 1936.

According to Roman Catholic tradition, the Holy Stairs were the steps leading up to the praetorium of Pontius Pilate in Jerusalem on which Jesus Christ stepped on his way to trial during his Passion. The original Holy Stairs were brought to Rome’s Saint John Lateran Basilica in 326AD. There are 18 replicas of the Holy Stairs throughout the world–Saint Patrick’s are one of three in the U.S., with the interior marble used being purchased from the Pittsburgh Natatorium.
