Ride With the King: Black History Tour

January 19, 2019     9:00am-2:30pm  

Hear the first-hand stories from the leaders in Pittsburgh's African American church community, dating back to the 1800’s to present, by visiting the inside of three prominent churches across East Liberty, Uptown and (Central) Northside.

While inside these churches you will be immersed in Pittsburgh's African American history through the confluence of these churches in generations past and present.

The tour will be available in two formats:

Self-Guided Tour Get Tickets

  • Self-Guide tickets are available until 12noon on event day, January 19.
  • You will be responsible for getting from one tour location to another.
  • View building descriptions.
  • Print your self guide.
  • Also, event guides will also be available at each tour location while supplies last.
  • Bethel AME church is not handicap accessible (no elevator).

Bus Tour Get Tickets

  • BUS TOUR TICKET ON-SALE HAS BEEN EXTENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.  Tickets are limited, so buy now.
  • Bus is NOT handicap accessible (no lift available).
  • Start your tour at 9:00am at Dollar Bank, 340 Fourth Avenue, Downtown.
  • Bus will leave promptly at 9:45am from Dollar Bank at 337 Fourth Avenue.
  • Bus will drop you off at the August Wilson Center at 1:45pm.
  • You will be responsible for getting back to your car from the August Wilson Center, located at 980 Liberty Avenue.
  • For parking:  Alco ParkingPgh Parking Authority, or Reserve Parking Options

TOUR NOTES:

  • Bus tour is not handicap accessible (no lift available).
  • Bethel AME church is not handicap accessible (no elevator).
  • August Wilson Center is only open from 1:45pm to 2:30pm for both tour formats.
  • Restrooms are available at every stop along the tour.
  • Photography is allowed at each tour stop (some restrictions apply at Dollar Bank).
  • Tour is rain/shine (bus and self-guided). No refunds.
  • Tickets proceeds will benefit all three churches and the presenting organization, DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh (non-profit, 501c3).
